How do I fix bad drainage in my side yard when nothing is lower than it to run a drain to?

The side yard of my house is lower than my neighbor’s side yard and holds a lot of water for a long time after it rains. When you walk on it your foot sinks a little and water bubbles up from the ground. As a result the slab our a/c sits on is sinking. We have considered French Drains but do not know how to go about it because there is no lower point in the yard to run the drain too. We lack the funds to call a landscape company and I was wondering if there was another kind of drain or solution someone could point me to? Thank you!
Also, the level of the street is slightly higher than this area.
The water is very close to the foundation.

I have put a link to the French Drains/garden draining system in case you haven’t already seen how to do it.
I would also suggest planting things that drink water. The Hydrangea needs a lot of water, Eucalyptus bushes/trees do too. Astilbe originally grew along river banks, so I would image they need a lot of water too.
I’ve put a second link showing Astilbe.
Then failing that, you can always put down gravel in the side yard..
Not knowing the size, I suggest that if it’s not too big an area because of the cost..

You have my sympathies as I wouldn’t be happy if I had your problem.

Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair
$60.13

This one-of-a-kind how-to manual on wetland restoration is written in non-technical, accessible language and will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in wetlands restoration. The book provides a range of interesting and useful advice on approaches to wetland creation and restoration, including adaptive management techniques and ''learning from beavers.''-- Mark Anderson-Wilk, Journal of Soil and Water ConservationThomas Biebighauser does an effective job of making the case that with the right planning and a fundamental knowledge base, ecological landscape enhancement projects involving wetlands do not need to be as nearly complex, expensive, and constrained by regulations as they often are. -- David J. Cameron Journal of the New England Water Works AssociationBiebighauser''s work is a thorough and accurate account about the good, the bad, and the ugly of wetland destruction and restoration. He objectively walks us through the history of wetland drainage, revealing clever solutions to dealing with soggy soil. In the process, he sets the stage for later portions of the book, where we learn how to be equally clever about bringing water back onto the landscape. The photographs are also excellent, showing historic perspective and illustrating what to do to bring wetlands back, or even put them where they never were. -- Bruce A. Kingsbury, Director, Center for Reptile and Amphibian Conservation and Management, Indiana-Purdue University Fort WaynepWetlands are a vital part of the landscape and ecology of the United States, providing critical habitat for fish and wildlife; yet they are being destroyed at an alarming rate. A detailed and comprehensive analysis of wetlands management, Wetland Drainage, Restoration, and Repair can help reverse this trend. The book begins with an historical overview of wetland destruction and repair over the past two hundred years and shows clearly how the effects on drained locations remain evident generations later. I have houndreds of palm ree seedlings growing in my mulch covered yard, I need to kill them! How?

I went with low water landscaping in my front yard, and to try to save money, I got a couple of truck loads of “free Mulch” from a local tree trimmer. Unfortanatly, the mulch was full of palm tree seeds! now I have a couple of hundred, yes hundred little palm trees growing in my front yard. No way I can dig them all up! Any Ideas? Your more than welcome to com get “em! I gues you get what you pay for!

Kill them with round up. Use professional round up or its competitors (43% or more active ingredient) if you can afford to. With regular round up you’ll have to spray them repeatedly for a couple weeks. Keep in mind that these products kill everything that is green so don’t spray it on anything that you want to keep.
