Anyone been to the Upscale Reptiles Sacramento expo?

http://www.upscalereptiles.com/

There’s a chance that I might be in CA around that time (Sept).

I was looking at Snake and Lizard pages (listed at top), and there don’t seem to be a wide variety at all. The only boas listed are amazons. I’d like to get a KSB, BRB, tree frog, pacman frog, or another BP, none of which are listed.

Anyone been to this show? Is it worth the $10? Is it worth the trip? I do not live nearby.

Tell me about it, for those of you that have gone. Is it any good?

What about the show in Anaheim, CA around that same time? Like I said, I have relatives in CA and I may be able to schedule a trip there this fall when I could stop an an expo.

i have been to the sac reptile expo, and it is not worth it. the last two times i have been there they sold nothing but bearded dragons and corn snakes. you may find what you are looking for but it will most likely be a bad quality specimen. i have never been to the anaheim expo, but i have heard good things.

arizona palm tree

arizona palm tree arizona palm tree

How do I replant an Arizona outdoor palm tree to be an indoor palm tree in Michigan? HELP! Sentimental tree.

I had to replant this palm because it was growing under my grandmother’s grapefruit tree and it could not be left there or it would damage the fruit tree. It was going to be destroyed if I did not take it to replant it. This tree means a lot to me as I love Arizona and my grandmother is very ill. I decided to take the tree home with me, replant it, love it and think of my grandmother and Arizona every time I look at this palm tree. I no nothing about planting, growing, and caring for this palm tree. HELP!

Flexible Management in a Late Planting Season

by Jeffrey C. Silvertooth,
Extension Agronomist – Cotton
The 1998 cotton season is progressing very slowly in Arizona and throughout the desert Southwest. Many growers have been trying to plant and some have been forced to replant considerable acreages already. As a couple of friends of mine commented last week “a lot of people have been practicing planting”. In terms of heat unit (HU, 86/55° F thresholds) accumulations since 1 January, we are generally about two weeks behind normal in most areas. Therefore, although we are definitely behind by calendar standards, we still have some room (time) to work with regarding planting windows from a HU standpoint. It is also very likely that the planting windows will end up being compressed into rather short periods of time if the weather changes rapidly and turns very hot, very quickly.

With the difficulties we have encountered thus far in 1998, it is important to consider the three stages at the very beginning of the season as being very critical periods in determining cotton crop potential. These three stages are outlined in Figure 1, and consist of the following:

Stage 1: stand establishment – planting, germination, and emergence;
Stage 2: foundation development – early root system development, early vegetative growth, and conversion from vegetative to reproductive or fruiting development (formation of the first fruiting branch and pinhead square); and
Stage 3: PRIME TIME – from pinhead square (PHS) to peak bloom.
Planting management is critical. We often recommend an “early / optimum” date of planting for optimal yield potential. However, it is important to qualify an early planting as occurring prior to an accumulation of about 700 heat units after January 1 (HU/Jan. 1). It is important not only to have a stand, but also to have a healthy, vigorous stand. Crops that are compromised by enduring substantial early season stress in Stage 1 will often develop slowly in Stage 2, and experience reduced potentials in Stage 3. Therefore, as we have seen in the past few months, considering weather forecasts can be constructive to planting management.

In the process of reformulating management plans for the 1998 crop, it is important to consider the fundamentals associated with any strategy (see Ten Point Plan below). In Arizona, good crop development and final yields often depend a lot on the crop development through the early parts of the primary fruiting cycle (Stage 3 = Prime Time). We still have a good probability of experiencing a period of hot and dry weather in late May, June, and early July, before the onset of the monsoon (our next weather nemesis). It is possible, under proper conditions, to set a significant boll load very quickly. The period from mid-June to mid-July in 1997 serves as a reminder and testimony to that. Accordingly, the 1998 crop still has potential if we can take advantage of opportunities that may occur later in the season. In some cases for example, it may require switching to medium or shorter maturity varieties in a delayed or replant situation. Setting the crop up for having strong vigor and being able to gain rapid fruit retention in the first fruiting cycle will be important for this season.

Cotton Management Strategies – Fundamental Ten Point Plan

proper variety selection (fit production strategy and planting date)
early/optimum planting
manage for early fruiting
protection of early fruit
good scouting for (all) cotton pests + timely control of damaging pests
manage for high fruit retention
monitoring crop development (vigor, fruit retention, stage of growth)
split fertilizer N applications (PHS to peak bloom)p>
use plant growth regulator (i.e. PIXtm) according to crop vigor and fruit retention
good irrigation management (eliminate water stress)
effective defoliation
timely harvest

christmas cactus plants

christmas cactus plants christmas cactus plants

I have a Christmas Cactus that alwys blooms in late fall when I bring it in from outside.?

The blooms always look wilted and the stems droop and some of them fall off. some buds never open and plant generally looks droopy. It starts off beautiful with tons of blooms then gets sick looking. Any ideas what is wrong?

Usually they get droppy when they need water. They form buds when they are allowed to dry, but once those flowers bloom they need alot f water. The three main ingredients for buds to form are REDUCED watering, less sun, and cooler temps (nothing freezing though). Usually the last 2 work best when you are getting a Christmas cactus to bloom, and I dont like telling people that they have a Christmas “Cactus” because then they never water it.
I once gave one to someone with literally a black thumb who would kill any plant, or fish in their care. Well I saw the plant abotu a month later and it was COMPLETELY dry and shriveled up, but still alive. I never did see that plant again :(

If you give it some water it will thank you for sure, but try not to keep it moist all the time when you are trying to get it to form buds.

Also you mioght not have a christmas cactus, but a thanksgiving cactus. They are in the same family, and need the same requirements to bloom, but christmas cactus are a little harder to find and the leaves are more rounded, and thanksgiving cactus are nicer (in my opinion), bloom earlier, and the leaves are pointed on the sides (but they arent sharp, just pointed, in other words the points couldnt actually hurt someone because they dont have needles like a true cactus does).
You can find some pics of them off the net and compare them to see wha you have.
Good luck!
