landscape painters

What is the significance of landscape painting?
I think I know some of the reasons I paint landscapes (it is an intuitive reader that until now I can not top the feeling good experience of this) ... what do you all feel is the most important reason to paint .... I want to know what other painters, viewers, historians, critics and free minds think .... stretch and surprise me because I meditated on it for years! (or simple heart felt responses because they are all valid!)
The art has a divine source. As an artist, you are a creator. Only God can do a tree. But an artist can paint one. You & I could both paint the same tree and it would be quite a different aspect, because we have different perspectives, styles and methods. We make a unique expression of ourselves and then share that vision on canvas. Landscape painting is celebrating the beauty of nature. It's a way to express your love for the beauty of the earth. You also bring nature into the home. Offering an additional window on the outside. I have a painting I did smoke in Lake Algonquin hanging on my tv. It is a reminder that this is a beautiful world and I am grateful to be able to experience and recreate on the canvas. Many people have lost their connection with nature. We must remind us that we are children of nature. One with the earth. There is a serenity that comes from being outside, breathing fresh air, walking among trees, hearing the waves on the shore. The magic of art is that it can transport you to that location. Someone who lives in an apartment high-rise in the middle of a city may have a landscape painting on their wall and be able to enjoy a view that they do not see in real life. Keep painting! Art is important. No matter what you paint. Whether you are creating. You express yourself. You are touching others with your work (all the world sees it.) "Art cleanses the soul the dust of everyday life" (Picasso).

Painters, Patrons, and Identity
$10.98 Thirty years ago J. J. Brody published his influential book Indian Painters and White Patrons and challenged an established understanding of the twentieth-century development of Native American painting. Simultaneously he spurred the development of a doctoral program in art history at the University of New Mexico. The range and strength of this program is evident in the scholars it has developed. Twelve of Brody's former students have contributed to this volume in his honor. Brody is a recognized expert on Native art of the Southwest, and there are essays here by Greta Murphy on Navajo weaving and H. Denise Smith on rock art. He encouraged work on Plains topics as well: included are essays on Plains art by Marsha C. Bol, Adrianne A. Santina, and Joyce Szabo. Steven L. Grafe examines the early nineteenth-century introduction of floral beadwork to the Plateau region. Several writers explore aspects of modern Native American art: Ruth LaNore studies Tesuque printmake! r Juan Pino; Kathleen Ash-Milby examines the painter Bonita Wa Wa Calachaw Nuñez; and Samuel E. Watson III looks at painter Charles Monegar. Kate Morris explores several prominent contemporary artists and the relationship of their paintings to landscape, while Joy L. Gritton examines other issues of contemporary art and the marketing of image. J. J. Brody continues to be a great teacher and scholar. This broad and lively anthology reveals the breadth of his influence and the vitality of the field of Native American art history. |
